Tom Steyer, founder of Farallon Capital Management and the co-founder of OneCalifornia Bank, spoke at the DNC on Wednesday night.  In his speech, he remarked "I think Mitt Romney and I share the same income bracket -- although I guess we're never going to know. But the reason I'm here tonight is that Mitt Romney and I don't share the same vision for the future, especially when it comes to energy. You see, this election is a choice -- a choice about whether to go backward or forward. And that choice is especially stark when it comes to energy."

Matrix Genetics, a small biotech company out of Seattle, announced last Wednesday that they’ve secured enough funding to expand their research on how to cultivate blue-green algae in order to make fuel. Prior to the funding, Matrix Genetics spent four years researching cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and how to bring the cost of algae biofuels down and remain competitive with fossil fuels.

A new report from the Natural Resources Defense Council titled “Game Changer: How the Sports Industry Is Saving the Environment,” presents the greening initiatives by sports leagues and franchises. The report covers efforts like switching from fossil fuels to solar energy, installing low-flush toilets to save water and ramping up recycling.
