Liquid Metal Battery, a promising battery start-up backed by Bill Gates, has changed its name to Ambri. Ambri is developing a battery for the power grid using molten salt pressed between two layers of liquid metal. While a prototype has been built, a commercial market ready battery is still about two years away.

Last month the DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) issued a set of colorful maps that reveal America’s resources in renewable energy. View the map here and see how geographic regions shape up in solar, wind, biomass and geothermal.

In an effort for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Navy to work together, the USDA has been funding a network of eight biofuel refineries in every region of the country while supporting foundational research that will help make biofuels cost competitive with fossil fuels. This partnership and the outcome will benefit the Navy and farmers alike.
