Fourteen counties and 126 cities in California have launched CaliforniaFIRST, the nation's largest finance program for green building upgrades that uses the Property Assessed Clean Energy financing model in an effort to help commercial property owners reduce their energy and water use.

According to a report from Pike Research, nearly one out of four PEVs sold in the U.S. by 2020 will be sold in California. Some of the reasons for the findings: strong state incentives for EV owners, the state’s population of tech early adopters, the area’s environmental leanings, and a large population with a disposable income. Since California is the most receptive to electric cars, the car manufacturers are also concentrating on the state before others.

A group of researchers from four nations are studying the best ways to increase the production of cleaner fuels like ethanol and biodiesel. In the near future, policies for the U.S., Mexico, Argentina and Brazil will be developed that will maximize the benefits and minimize social and environmental costs associated with renewable energy development.
