GE announced this week that they will work with advanced grid battery startup Xtreme Power’s “Xtreme Active Control Technology” (XACT) to integrate GE’s own line of Durathon batteries into grid applications. Specific projects were not cited but the partnership will likely lead to multiple projects giving Xtreme valuable exposure.

Researchers have developed a lithium-ion battery capable of being recharged 30 to 120 times faster than conventional li-ion batteries. This breakthrough could aid in the creation of a battery pack for electric vehicles that will fully charge in less than a minute.

China remains the leader in the global renewable energy sector according to the recent Global Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices Report (CAI) released by Ernst & Young. Major investments in the German offshore wind energy sector and solar sector has helped Germany move in to the second spot. The U.S. did hold the number two spot but has now dropped to number 3 due to growing uncertainty over the long-term renewable energy goals of the government to tackle climate change. The survey grades 40 nations based on their renewable energy markets, renewable energy infrastructure, and their suitability for individual technologies.
