DOE funds 19 next-gen battery projects with $43M
The Department of Energy’s ARPA-E  program has allocated another $43 million for 19 battery projects, all of which are very early stage and focused on bringing disruptive R&D to commercialization. Substantial innovation has stemmed from the ARPA-E program, which has been funding next-generation battery technologies with small grants over a number of years.

San Clemente-based Regenesis is working on a brownfield regeneration and environmental cleanup for London’s Olympic Park. The company manufactures products to treat water and soil and those products have been used on more than 18,000 projects.

Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) haven't given traditional 3-blade horizontal axis wind turbines much competition on land, but offshore wind farms could benefit from the vertical design. VAWTs have a lower turbine center of gravity; reduced complexity, and better scalability. These factors are very important offshore where installation and maintenance is more expensive and complex.
