The California Energy Commission (CEC) has made $1,154,230 in grants to promote research into climate change forecasting and renewable energy technologies in California. $30,000, the largest allocation, will go to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to study regional climate change and more precise forecasting of demand/availability of hydroelectric power in California.

Smart home company Alarm.com raises $136M
Alarm.com, a twelve-year-old Virginia-based company that makes wireless security and energy management systems, has just closed a round of $136 million in equity. The company has about 1 million subscribers and recently signed a partnership to use Verizon Wireless’ network.

Amidst a solid lighting market, Intematix, who produces a product that makes LEDs perform better, has filed an IPO. A reliable source has indicated that the company is generating strong revenue and is backed by funding from DFJ, Crosslink and East Gate, and more recently by Samsung and Sumitomo.
