A Higher Price Tag for a Nuclear Project
The Vogtle 3 and 4 reactors being built near Augusta, GA may come in at $900 million more than had been estimated. Problems arose from delays in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s approval of a design certification document from the manufacturer therefore the budget and schedule were impacted. Builders have had the license for three months but they have not reached a final agreement with the Energy Department on the loan guarantee, no official word on the reason.

NRG Energy is legally obligated to invest in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) charging infrastructure in California and here is how the $100M will be divided: $50.5 million in 200 eVgo Freedom Station sites, $40 million in make-ready electrical installations, and $9 million in BEV charging technology and BEV car sharing programs.

The cost of consumer LED bulbs could be drastically slashed in a few years if a new silicon-based technology takes off. Toshiba and Bridgelux just announced a partnership to manufacture LED light sources using a silicon-based LED manufacturing technology . The project is backed by Toshiba for an undisclosed amount in Bridgelux, based out of Livermore, CA.
