New CEO at Modular Wind Energy
Gregor Gnaedig has been appointed as Modular Wind Energy’s new CEO. Modular Wind, who moved to Orange County from Long Beach in 2010, makes blades for wind turbines and serves wind turbine manufacturers. Modular Wind Energy said it is moving from research and development to production and its first commercial turbine blades are expected to be installed in the U.S. and Europe next year.

HelioVoltRe-Emerges With Improved Efficiency CIGS Solar Panels
Remaining relatively quiet since receiving $50 million from SK Innovation in September of 2011, HelioVolt has now re-emerged with an announcement of 13.5% efficiency solar panels. These new levels place HelioVolt's CIGS efficiency amongst the leaders in market, alongside MiaSolé.

Trans-Atlantic Electric Flight Attempt Will EmulateLindbergh
California-based electric aerospace company Flight of the Century, Inc. wants to emulate the pioneer of trans-Atlantic flight himself, Charles Lindbergh, with a 3,600-mile trip from New York to Paris. The company plans to build an all-electric aircraft for the non-stop trip which is currently planned for 2014. In order to achieve a non-stop flight, a series of flying UAV battery pods will dock with the aircraft and recharge it in-flight.
