A handful of smart grid companies have announced their support of the Green Button initiative, the emerging energy data standard for U.S. households which was launched in September to create a common data format. This announcement will likely spur more support for the Green Button initiative from commercial building sector.

In research funded by The U.S. Department of Energy and the Exxon Mobil Corporation, Brown University chemists have created a nanoparticle that reportedly performs better and lasts longer than any other nanoparticle studied in fuel-cell reactions. The reason for the improved performance is the addition of gold because it yields a more uniform structure while removing carbon monoxide.
