A Kickstarter For Solar: Mosaic Launches
Yesterday Mosaic released its online platform for crowdfunding solar, similar to Kickstarter. Mosaic’s website allows NY and CA residents to financially back solar power projects and earn a 4.5 percent return. The first day of release went so well that they sold out the first four projects in less than 24 hours. The company reported that 400 investors had put in between $25 and $30,000.

Alameda, CA-based startup Imprint Energy is using research from Berkeley to develop a thin, flexible battery that would allow gadget makers to drastically change their designs for wearables, an emerging sector. Imprint Energy is already producing low volumes of its ultra-thin, energy-dense, flexible, and low cost rechargeable batteries for pilot customers.

Last week, Avis agreed to purchase Zipcar in a deal worth approximately $500 million. The deal, if it goes through, would allow Zipcar to act as a subsidiary of Avis. However, new reports have just surfaced suggesting the deal is under investigation. Bernstein Liebhard LLP  is investigating whether “the Board of Directors of Zipcar breached its fiduciary duty to its shareholders in agreeing to sell Zipcar to Avis Budget Group.”
