Dykstra, a Dutch company, is designing a sail-powered ship combining old and new sailing technologies. The Ecoliner Fair Winds has four massive automated sails that are moved by wind and satellite data that determines the ship’s optimal route. Since the ship is automated, less crew and fossil fuels are needed than a traditional container ship. The Ecoliner is scheduled to be ready in 2013.
